Riga Airport has moved into the next phase of its passenger terminal expansion, with construction preparations due to begin in the second half of September 2026. The project will add about 20,000 square metres of terminal space and 29,500 square metres of roads, pavements, public areas and landscaped surroundings, as the Baltic hub tackles capacity limits in its existing facility.
The work forms part of a €98 million construction programme, supported by lending of up to €150 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Nordic Investment Bank and OP Corporate Bank Latvia. The RIXLA consortium, comprising LNK Industries and Arčers, won the international tender with the most economically advantageous bid.
The expansion is designed around current congestion in the terminal, which is operating beyond its original design capacity. Planned facilities include a larger check-in hall, expanded security screening, a centralised baggage reclaim and arrivals hall, improved access roads and new parking and public-space works.
The project is scheduled in phases over 42 months, beginning with site preparation and temporary facilities before external infrastructure, the terminal extension and final landscaping. Riga Airport expects the enlarged terminal to support future passenger growth and introduce newer energy-efficient passenger processing and security systems.
