Syrianair receives first two Airbus A320s in fleet upgrade

Syrianair has taken delivery of its first two Airbus A320s as part of a wider fleet modernisation and expansion programme. The aircraft, registered YK-AKI and YK-AKJ, are the first to arrive from an eight-jet A320-family order, with one already operating a Damascus–Riyadh service while the second undergoes final preparation for entry into service.

Both aircraft are second-hand ex-European-market A320s configured with 156 seats, giving the national carrier an immediate boost in narrowbody capacity. The additions come as Syrianair works to rebuild a fleet that has been severely constrained for years, improving scheduling flexibility and reliability on regional routes.

The new jets have been linked to a broader renewal effort involving Syrian civil aviation authorities. One of the airframes had previously been transferred from Baku before entering Syrianair service, underscoring the airline’s use of the secondary market to accelerate fleet expansion. Earlier reporting indicated the carrier had been operating with only a small number of Airbus A320s and a Boeing 737-500 before these deliveries.
