Lufthansa A319 D-AIBP Returns to Service with Lufthansa City Airlines

Lufthansa has returned Airbus A319 D-AIBP to active service with Lufthansa City Airlines, bringing the jet back into scheduled operation after a period on the ground. The aircraft, named Pfaffenhofen a. d. Ilm, is now flying European routes from Munich for the Lufthansa Group carrier.

The aircraft first drew attention after a naming error during a maintenance visit, when the city inscription was applied with a typo before being corrected. It was then parked following the withdrawal of Lufthansa CityLine, where the more than 20-year-old A319 had previously operated. Its reappearance in service gives the aircraft a new role after its future had been uncertain.

The return also fits Lufthansa City Airlines’ wider use of older narrowbody aircraft on short-haul services as it expands its Munich-based network. The move keeps the city sponsorship visible in the air, while shifting the jet from an inactive parked state back into line operations.
