A new Infras study puts Geneva Airport’s 2024 economic contribution at about CHF 3.3 billion in value added and around 22,000 full-time-equivalent jobs, with the airport’s on-site companies generating roughly CHF 1.66 billion directly. The analysis also shows benefits spread well beyond the canton of Geneva, with gains for neighbouring France and the rest of Switzerland, while tourism linked to the airport and freight activity add further weight to the airport’s role in the regional economy.
The study estimates that around 268 companies operating at the airport accounted for direct activity equal to 2.6% of Geneva’s GDP. Of the total economic impact, about CHF 2 billion accrues to the canton of Geneva, CHF 550 million to the neighbouring French region and CHF 770 million to the rest of Switzerland.
Tourism related to the airport generated about CHF 1.7 billion in value added and supported more than 16,800 jobs, based on 2.9 million tourist arrivals in 2024. General and business aviation contributed about CHF 330 million, while air freight accounted for roughly CHF 350 million in total effects, with some 96,000 tonnes of cargo handled through Geneva Airport.
