Saxony recorded 13 security-relevant drone overflights at critical infrastructure, military sites and arms companies in the first half of 2026, with the incidents linked in local reporting to the drone case at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The Interior Ministry data show a sharp rise from 25 such cases in all of 2025, while police identified drone pilots in three instances.
The incidents affected transport most heavily, with eight cases, followed by energy facilities with four and state administration with one. No personal or property damage was reported in the 2026 cases, and authorities said there were no indications at that stage of politically motivated crime, espionage, sabotage, terrorism or hybrid threats.
Leipzig/Halle Airport has become a focal point for the issue after the August incident prompted a reinforced response, including a special radar post. Under Saxon rules, administrative offences can trigger fines of up to 50,000 euros, while endangering aviation safety can lead to prison terms. The pattern has intensified concern around drone incursions near transport and industrial sites in Saxony, especially in the Leipzig area.
