Aeroflot is in the final stage of agreeing terms for a firm order for 90 more MC-21 aircraft, in a move that would lift its planned total to 108 jets including 18 already under contract. The Moscow-based airline is preparing to expand its Russian-made narrowbody fleet as it advances a long-running renewal programme centred on the MC-21-310 and backed by domestic manufacturer UAC.
The deal remains close to signature, with financing among the last unresolved issues. UAC chief Vadim Badeha had previously indicated that the 90-aircraft package had already been negotiated, leaving funding as the main obstacle to completion.
Aeroflot aims to take delivery of 108 MC-21s by 2030 as it reduces reliance on Airbus and Boeing aircraft. A follow-on order of this size would stand among the largest commitments yet for the MC-21 programme and would deepen state-backed demand for Russian civil aircraft.
