Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office have appealed for information about a person who may be linked to the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport. An AI-generated image shows a person on an e-bike, reportedly seen near the airport between 31 July and 4 August 2026. Investigators have already identified two suspects and are seeking witnesses who may have seen the person or can provide photographs or video.
The person is described as wearing a thick jacket, gloves, dark trousers, a hood and a cap, and carrying a large black backpack. Investigators are particularly interested in sightings along the route between Rabutz and Beuditz and near the industrial area between Radefeld and Lützschena. They have identified a suspected drone launch site near the route and recovered other suspected evidence near the industrial area.
The investigation concerns a drone found on the airport’s southern runway during the night of 4–5 August, close to Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft. An airport employee discovered that it was fitted with an explosive device and loaded with explosives. The appeal does not establish the unidentified person’s involvement; authorities say the person may be connected to the attack.
