Wizz Air opened its first operational base in Spain at Valencia Airport on 2 November, stationing two Airbus A321neo aircraft at Manises. The base supports seven new routes, including five domestic services, and the airline’s first flights between Spanish cities. Its inaugural domestic departure was bound for Oviedo; flights to Santiago de Compostela also began that day. The new routes are being introduced in stages through December.
Asturias and Santiago launched on opening day, followed by Santander and Brașov on 3 November. Services to Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca and Naples are scheduled to start in December. The domestic routes bring Wizz Air into competition on Spain’s internal market, while the based aircraft provide capacity for the expanded Valencia schedule.
The airline offered 1.7 million seats from Valencia in 2026 across 25 routes to 10 countries, and has a target of about three million seats for 2027. The latter is a company plan, not achieved capacity. Wizz Air also expects the base to create more than 80 direct jobs, primarily for pilots and cabin crew, and more than 2,500 indirect employment opportunities. These figures are estimates.
The carrier and Fundación Trinidad Alfonso have also agreed a sponsorship under which the Valencia half-marathon will take the name Medio Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Wizz Air from 2027.
