Greece’s Ministry of National Defence has signed a contract for three Embraer KC-390 Millennium aircraft, with options for three additional aircraft, under a government-to-government agreement with Portugal. The Hellenic Air Force is scheduled to receive its first aircraft in 2027. The procurement is intended to strengthen Greece’s airlift and air-to-air refuelling capabilities and improve interoperability with NATO and allied forces.
The agreement also provides for European cooperation in training, support and logistics. No delivery timetable has been specified for the remaining aircraft, and Embraer has not disclosed the contract’s value.
Greece becomes the seventh European country to select the KC-390, joining Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden. The aircraft is designed for transport, airdrop, medical evacuation, search-and-rescue, firefighting and humanitarian missions. With refuelling equipment installed, it can operate as either a tanker or a receiver.
