Wizz Air has reopened its base at Palermo Falcone Borsellino International Airport in Sicily after four years away, returning two Airbus A321neo aircraft to the airport and restoring its operational presence in the city. The move gives the carrier an expanded platform in southern Italy, with an initial network of 10 routes from Palermo and a planned third aircraft to follow later in the year.
The base had been withdrawn in 2022, ending Wizz Air’s earlier presence in the Sicilian capital. The relaunch is being used to grow both domestic and international traffic from Palermo, including services linked to the airport’s existing network and additional destinations expected from September. Reported additions include Barcelona, Dortmund, Marrakech and Prague as the airline increases capacity.
Palermo’s return to Wizz Air’s base map also sharpens competition on the airport’s short-haul market, particularly on routes serving mainland Italy and selected European leisure and VFR destinations. The launch was accompanied by airport activity on the Palermo–Turin service, underlining the carrier’s renewed focus on the route from Sicily.
