Sikorsky unveils four-drone deployment kit in a shipping container

Sikorsky, the Lockheed Martin company, has introduced the Nomad 100 Fast Pack, a planned deployment system that combines four autonomous VTOL aircraft and their operating equipment in a standard 20-foot shipping container. The package is designed to provide runway-independent air capability from naval vessels, tactical vehicle staging areas and improvised landing zones, with two aircraft prepared for missions in under 15 minutes and the remaining pair available within four to six hours.

The container is intended to carry mission-command software, power systems, communications equipment and sustainment gear, making it a self-contained operating package rather than a transport-only solution. After a mission, crews could repack the equipment, load it on a compatible vehicle and move the system to another site.

Customer-selected configurations could support intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting, light attack or contested-logistics missions. The Nomad 100 combines vertical take-off, landing and hovering with fixed-wing flight and uses Sikorsky’s MATRIX autonomy technology. It is classified as a Group 3 unmanned aircraft under the US Department of Defense system.

Sikorsky has not disclosed a price, customer, delivery schedule or specific personnel requirement. The company also has not confirmed whether a Fast Pack unit has been built or whether a military service is evaluating or has ordered the system.
