Viasat boosts satellite capacity fivefold for business jet Wi-Fi in US

Viasat has expanded its JetXP inflight-connectivity capacity fivefold across the United States for business-aviation aircraft equipped with Honeywell Aerospace JetWave terminals. The nationwide enhancement, announced at NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas on 20 October, is designed to support heavier simultaneous use of video conferencing, streaming, artificial-intelligence tools and large file transfers across multiple onboard devices. It is delivered through a software update rather than a standard hardware retrofit.

The increase was first introduced over the eastern United States before being extended nationwide. Existing JetXP customers should contact Collins Aerospace, Gogo or Honeywell Aerospace to confirm eligibility and arrange the update; some configuration work may be required, although most of the process can take place over the air.

The fivefold figure refers to network capacity available to customers, not a guaranteed fivefold increase in each passenger’s download speed. JetXP combines Viasat’s legacy Jet ConneX and Viasat Ka services and is activated on more than 2,100 aircraft worldwide.

The capacity expansion comes as business-jet users demand more video calls, cloud applications, streaming and data transfers. It also enables Viasat to increase service capability across the installed fleet without aircraft downtime. The company plans to add Telesat Lightspeed low-Earth-orbit capacity to JetXP by late 2027, as competition intensifies from providers including Starlink and Gogo.
