Ukraine orders 590,000 drones as interceptors overtake FPVs

Ukraine’s military units ordered more than 590,000 uncrewed aerial vehicles through the government-run Brave1 Market between January and September 2026, with interceptor drones overtaking FPV kamikaze systems as the most frequently ordered category. The Ministry of Defence’s figures, published on 25 September, point to a sharp shift in demand toward air-defence-style drones alongside continued large-scale use of strike platforms.

The ministry’s interceptor category covers drones used against Russian reconnaissance aircraft as well as dedicated systems designed to counter Shahed-type one-way attack drones. Fixed-wing kamikaze drones recorded the fastest growth over the period, indicating broader demand across several drone types rather than reliance on a single platform.

Order activity also accelerated through the year. At its peak, Ukrainian units were placing six times as many drone orders as at the start of 2026, while the average monthly value of orders more than doubled from January. The ministry did not identify the peak month, individual suppliers or the exact procurement value.
