Turkish Airlines and CFM sign MOU covering more than 600 LEAP-1B engines

Turkish Airlines, Turkish Technic and CFM International have signed a memorandum of understanding covering more than 600 LEAP-1B engines for Turkish Airlines and AJet, including a prospective purchase of more than 300 engines for up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The agreement combines engine supply, spares and long-term support for the operators’ wider LEAP-1B fleet.

The prospective purchase includes engines for 100 firm Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and 50 additional aircraft covered by options in Turkish Airlines’ September order. The wider figure of more than 600 also includes engines already ordered or delivered, spare units, engines installed on leased aircraft and engines associated with possible future options.

The memorandum was signed in Istanbul by Turkish Airlines board and executive committee chairman Murat Şeker, Turkish Technic general manager Mikail Akbulut and Safran chief executive Olivier Andries, representing CFM’s Safran shareholder. CFM International is a 50:50 joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines.

The long-term services arrangement includes parts support for a planned engine maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Turkey. The agreement is intended to support Turkish Technic’s development of LEAP maintenance capabilities and potential international MRO activities. Financial terms were not disclosed.
