The only known surviving Fairey Gordon has completed restoration in New Zealand and is being offered for sale as a static display aircraft. The Fairey Gordon Mk I, carrying RAF serial K2759 and Royal New Zealand Air Force registration NZ629, was restored by Robert Reece and his company Aviationz Ltd. The aircraft is not airworthy, and the sale is being conducted through private negotiations rather than an auction.
Reece began work after discovering the stored remains in 2019. The aircraft had been recovered from New Zealand’s Southern Alps following a crash, although accounts differ over whether the recovery took place in 1972 or 1976. Its precise current location has not been disclosed beyond confirmation that it is stored in a hangar.
No asking price has been made public. Reece has suggested that New Zealand filmmaker and military-aircraft collector Peter Jackson could acquire the aircraft or receive it as a birthday present on 31 October, while making clear that other buyers are welcome.
Dating from the 1930s, the restored biplane represents a type that was outperformed by the later Supermarine Spitfire Mk I. Its accepted status as the sole surviving Fairey Gordon makes it a notable acquisition prospect for aviation-heritage institutions and military-aircraft collectors.
