Textron Aviation launches paid youth apprenticeship programme in Kansas

Textron Aviation has launched Kansas’ first state-registered aviation youth apprenticeship programme, opening paid training routes for high school students from age 16 across three technical tracks: airframe and powerplant, avionics and engine buildup. The first cohorts started this autumn, and the structured programme can run for up to three years, combining classroom learning with on-the-job training at Textron Aviation facilities.

The airframe and powerplant and avionics tracks are run with WSU Tech in Wichita, while the engine buildup pathway is delivered with Tri County Tech and is based in Independence, Kansas. Apprentices earn a credential through the Kansas Office of Apprenticeships, and participants in the airframe and powerplant track also gain their A&P certification.

Textron Aviation designed the initiative as a direct pipeline into aviation maintenance and manufacturing jobs, linking employers with Kansas high schools and workforce partners. Participating institutions include Wichita Public Schools, Haysville Public Schools, Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, Dewey High School, WSU Tech and Tri County Tech.
