Sweden receives Taurus missiles from Germany for Gripen fleet

Sweden has received Taurus KEPD 350 cruise missiles purchased from German military stocks for integration with its JAS 39 Gripen fleet. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) confirmed the delivery to Dagens industri, but has not disclosed the shipment’s size or whether the missiles are intended initially for testing and integration or operational use. The precise delivery date is also unknown.

Sweden announced the acquisition in February 2025, with integration planned first on the Gripen C and initial operational capability originally targeted for 2028. Work on the Gripen E is expected to follow. In August 2026, a Gripen C launched a Taurus for the first time during a test at the Vidsel range in northern Sweden.

The air-launched missile has a reported range of more than 500 kilometres and is designed to penetrate air defences and strike hardened or deeply buried targets. Dagens industri also reported that Sweden is preparing to participate in development of a newer Taurus version, but the scope and terms of any role have not been made public.
