Saab presents first GlobalEye aircraft for Sweden

Saab has presented the first GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft ordered for Sweden at its production facility in Linköping. Designated S 106 in Swedish service, the aircraft is intended for the Swedish Air Force and will undergo testing and verification before its first flight and delivery, which is planned for 2027.

Sweden has ordered three GlobalEye aircraft from Saab. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration contracted the first two in 2022 and added a third in 2024. FMV is responsible for the procurement on behalf of the Swedish government.

GlobalEye is based on the Bombardier Global 6000 business jet and combines Saab’s Erieye radar with additional active and passive sensors. The system is designed to detect and identify objects across the air, land and maritime domains and distribute real-time information to Swedish air force, army and naval units.

The presentation begins the process of introducing Sweden’s new airborne surveillance and command capability. Sweden is expected to become the first NATO member to operate GlobalEye, strengthening its contribution to the alliance’s common defence. Saab has not disclosed the aircraft’s first-flight date or the timeline for achieving full operational capability.
