S7 Airlines suffered a second Boeing 737 runway overrun in six weeks after a cargo aircraft arriving at Norilsk Airport in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region went beyond the runway end on landing on 8 August. The aircraft had flown from Moscow Domodedovo and was carrying two crew members and cargo. No injuries were reported, but the jet sustained damage.
Russia’s West Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office and Novosibirsk Transport Prosecutor’s Office opened checks into possible breaches of aviation safety rules. The cause of the Norilsk excursion has not been established publicly, and the inquiry remains at an early stage.
The latest incident follows a similar event involving another S7 Boeing 737 at Mirny Airport on 30 June. That aircraft, a 737-800 operating from Novosibirsk to Mirny, also overran the runway after touchdown, with no injuries reported. The back-to-back runway excursions place fresh scrutiny on the carrier’s landing operations and ground safety procedures.
