RIAT to move permanently to MOD Boscombe Down from 2027

The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises (RAFCTE), organiser of the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), will move the show’s flying operations from RAF Fairford to MOD Boscombe Down in Wiltshire for the 2027 edition and future events. The new venue will host its first RIAT in 2027. RAFCTE has not yet published the event dates or detailed arrangements for aircraft participation and visitors.

RAF Fairford has hosted RIAT for about 40 years. RAFCTE described the relocation as a decision to secure the event’s long-term future, citing Boscombe Down’s space, capability and flexibility as a basis for developing the show. The organiser has not identified the cancellation of the 2026 edition as a reason for the move.

RAFCTE will retain its headquarters in Fairford and remain committed to the town and surrounding region. It also acknowledged the contributions of RAF Fairford, the US Air Force and the local community to the event.

RIAT supports the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust’s education and STEM work. RAFCTE reported that the 2025 show helped deliver more than 500,000 STEM engagements for young people across the UK. Further information on the new venue’s visitor arrangements and the programme is expected later.
