Qatar Airways has become the first airline to operate a Starlink-equipped Boeing 787-9, expanding its inflight connectivity rollout to 150 widebody aircraft. The Doha-based carrier also completed Starlink installation across its Boeing 787-8 sub-fleet in seven months and remains on track to finish fitting its full Boeing 787 fleet by the end of 2026.
The latest 787-9 joins Qatar Airways’ Starlink-equipped Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 fleets. The airline has used the programme to build what it calls the world’s first and largest Starlink-equipped widebody network, with more than 23 million passengers having used the service since October 2024.
Starlink provides speeds of up to 500 Mbps and is offered free to passengers after logging in or joining Privilege Club. Qatar Airways has maintained a fast retrofit pace across its long-haul fleet, with the 787-8 sub-fleet completed in seven months and the overall Boeing 787 programme still moving towards year-end completion.
