Poland probes drone factory fire as suspected sabotage

Polish authorities are treating a fire at WB Electronics’ drone components plant in Skarżysko-Kamienna as suspected sabotage, with investigators examining possible foreign intelligence involvement. The blaze broke out on 31 August at the defence manufacturer’s facility about 150 kilometres south of Warsaw, caused an estimated 15 million złoty in damage and did not injure anyone.

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński has said everything points to deliberate sabotage, while prosecutors have opened a case covering suspected terrorist activity and links to a foreign intelligence service. The fire was contained in about two hours, and the site remained closed at the time of the incident. WB Electronics is a major supplier of drone and defence equipment, including parts used by the Polish and Ukrainian armed forces, making the disruption commercially significant for a strategic sector. Investigators are also checking whether flammable materials were used to start the blaze, and no suspect has been publicly identified.
