Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal and Customer Service Building have received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, formal recognition for sustainability measures built into the landside complex from the outset. The airport’s new Terminal Garage has also secured Parksmart Gold certification from Green Business Certification Inc., adding a second third-party sustainability credential to the project.
The certifications cover a wider development programme at Pittsburgh International, where the terminal was designed with energy-efficient building systems, smart controls, water conservation measures, sustainable waste management and responsible materials sourcing. The airport pursued Gold-level ratings for all three projects because those features were part of the original design rather than later additions.
Parksmart Gold for the garage reflects its parking operations, lighting, electric vehicle charging and efficiency features. Together, the certifications place the new terminal complex among the more sustainability-focused airport redevelopments in the US and strengthen PIT’s positioning in infrastructure, ESG and airport design markets.
