Oslo Airport is set to gain a third cargo handler after Avinor moved forward with Worldwide Flight Services, a SATS company, for cargo handling operations at the Norwegian hub. The licence remains subject to conditions being fulfilled, but the arrangement would give the airport its first three-handler setup and expand capacity for airlines, freight forwarders and cargo owners.
The new operation is expected to broaden handling choice in a market where Oslo Airport has not previously hosted three cargo handlers at the same time. Avinor’s cargo chief, Eva Beate Lande, described the additional operator as a way to increase capacity and strengthen competition among cargo service providers.
Oslo Airport has been building its role in air freight, particularly for export traffic, and the addition of WFS fits that direction. The new handler would join an existing market structure that has so far been served by fewer operators, giving customers a wider set of options at Norway’s main air cargo gateway.
