Ontic launches CargoCare to cut Boeing 747 freighter downtime

Ontic has launched CargoCare, a new range of MRO services aimed at helping cargo operators reduce aircraft downtime and control maintenance costs. The first offering is an exchange-and-overhaul programme for Boeing 747 leading-edge flap drive units, providing serviceable replacements from an exchange pool in as little as 48 hours.

When an operator removes a faulty unit, Ontic dispatches a replacement while overhauling the removed component at its MRO facility in Tewkesbury, United Kingdom. The overhauled unit is then returned to the pool to maintain an ongoing supply of serviceable components.

Customers can choose dedicated or shared exchange pools, reducing the need to hold additional spare inventory. The programme also provides fixed-rate or flat-rate overhauls, an extended warranty, flexible commercial terms and support through Ontic hubs in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

The service is intended to address the difficulty of sourcing or repairing Boeing 747 flap drive units quickly after an unplanned removal, when an aircraft may otherwise remain out of service. Ontic plans to extend CargoCare to other aircraft platforms and components as it expands its MRO portfolio.
