NASA confirmed that astronauts Jessica Meir and Sophie Adenot completed a successful spacewalk outside the International Space Station on 1 September, carrying out navigation, science and maintenance work during a 6 hour 49 minute EVA. The pair installed a retroreflector to improve rendezvous and docking navigation, took exterior microbial samples, prepared the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer for future upgrades and replaced a high-definition camera.
The sortie formed part of a busy period of station maintenance, with NASA describing it as one of four spacewalks completed within a month. The task mix reflected the routine but technically varied nature of ISS extravehicular work, combining hardware installation, inspection and science-support activities. After returning inside, the astronauts spent the following day cleaning up and resting, while earlier spacewalks in the same period took place on 6, 18 and 25 August.
