Luxair to invest more than $1.2 billion in Boeing 737 MAX-led fleet renewal

Luxair will invest more than €1 billion, or about $1.2 billion, to renew its fleet by the mid-2030s, centring the programme on Boeing 737 MAX aircraft at Luxembourg Airport. The carrier presented its first two company-owned Boeing 737-8s at Findel, where the new narrowbody jets begin a phased replacement of older aircraft across its short- and medium-haul network.

The Boeing element of the programme now stands at 12 firm aircraft: eight 737-8s and four 737-10s, with options for two additional 737-10s. Luxair has configured the 737-8s with 186 seats and plans to use them on longer sectors, including services to Cabo Verde and Senegal.

The airline is pairing the Boeing order with Embraer E2 deliveries already under way, creating a mixed future fleet built around Boeing narrowbodies and Embraer jets. Luxair has framed the renewal around lower fuel burn, reduced CO2 emissions and less noise than the aircraft being replaced, while the full transition is due to run into the mid-2030s.
