Lufthansa will close its AirRail Terminal at Frankfurt Airport on 26 October, ending the dedicated check-in and baggage-drop service for rail passengers at the long-distance station. Travellers booked on the airline’s combined rail-and-air product will instead use the regular check-in areas in Terminal 1, while baggage collection after arrival will also move there.
The change affects passengers connecting to and from Frankfurt through Lufthansa’s rail partnership, particularly those familiar with the separate AirRail facility near the Fernbahnhof. Combined rail and flight itineraries will remain available, and the connection guarantee and mileage accrual stay in place. Lufthansa has framed the move as a way to simplify processes and use capacity more efficiently, though no further operational background was disclosed.
