Lufthansa and pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit have agreed to a mediation and arbitration process over their unresolved labour dispute, temporarily reducing the risk of further strike action at the German carrier and its subsidiaries Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa CityLine and Eurowings. The move covers the group’s pilot workforce and comes after earlier strikes had already disrupted operations this year.
The conflict centres on outstanding tariff issues, including occupational pensions and other pay-related terms. The union informed members on Monday evening, while Lufthansa confirmed the arrangement on Tuesday. The confidential process includes mediation on broader issues, with exit options for both sides if talks fail.
For Lufthansa, the agreement offers short-term operational stability during the peak summer travel period, when any renewed stoppage would have had immediate consequences for passengers and flight schedules. The companies did not disclose details of the talks because of the confidentiality deal.
