Jubba Airways returns to Mogadishu with Boeing 737-300QC service

Jubba Airways has resumed international operations with the return to Mogadishu of its first Boeing 737-300QC, registered 5Y-JAB, after a suspension. The aircraft was welcomed at Aden Adde International Airport with a water salute and entered service on the Nairobi–Mogadishu route on 16 September, as the carrier rebuilds its scheduled passenger network.

The 147-seat, all-economy jet first operated a domestic sector to Mombasa on 10 September before making its first international flight, according to flight-tracking data. The aircraft, previously flown by Brazil’s Sideral Linhas Aéreas, was acquired earlier in 2026 and carries manufacturer serial number 26851.

The relaunch forms part of a broader shift away from a turboprop-only profile towards narrowbody jet operations for passenger and cargo work. Jubba Airways plans to reconnect Somalia with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya, while also restarting domestic services.
