ITA Airways has celebrated its fifth anniversary, five years after launching as Alitalia’s successor with an Airbus A320 service from Milan Linate to Bari. The airline has since carried approximately 72 million passengers on more than 580,000 scheduled flights, while expanding its fleet to 109 aircraft, 75% of which are new-generation models.
The first ITA Airways flight departed at 06:20 on 15 October 2021 in an A320 wearing the special “Born in 2021” livery. The carrier’s growth has included the continued renewal of its fleet and expansion of its network from its Rome Fiumicino and Milan bases.
For the winter 2026/27 schedule, ITA Airways plans to serve 55 destinations: 16 domestic, 21 international short- and medium-haul, and 18 intercontinental. The programme includes a new seasonal direct route between Rome Fiumicino and Santo Domingo, due to begin on 30 November 2026 with an Airbus A330neo. The service will initially operate weekly before increasing to two flights per week from 14 December.
Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Joerg Eberhart described the anniversary as an important milestone and indicated that the airline was preparing for further growth.
