ISCC and APSAC sign three-year SAF certification agreement

Cologne-based sustainability certification organisation ISCC and Singapore’s Asia Pacific Sustainable Aviation Centre (APSAC) have agreed to cooperate on education and stakeholder engagement for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) certification across Asia-Pacific. Signed in Singapore on 5 November, the memorandum of understanding has an initial three-year term. Planned work includes training, workshops and technical exchanges to build understanding of certification requirements and support the development of certified regional supply chains.

The agreement also covers support for regional policy and regulatory frameworks, joint events and the preparation of guidance, case studies and other educational material. ISCC brings expertise in certification and supply-chain traceability, while APSAC contributes regional policy knowledge and a convening role. The signatories were APSAC Chief Executive Philip Goh and Adam Kirby, ISCC’s Head of Aviation & Maritime. They signed the memorandum on the sidelines of APSAC’s Growing Aviation Sustainably programme.

The cooperation is focused on capacity-building; it does not commit either organisation to produce, buy or deliver SAF. Certification will continue to be conducted independently by recognised certification bodies selected and contracted by system users. For airlines, fuel producers and regulators, certification and traceability provide a basis for assessing whether SAF meets sustainability requirements and for substantiating supply-chain claims.
