Hamburg Airport will close runway 15/33 for scheduled maintenance from 9 to 23 September, routing all take-offs and landings through the other runway during the work. The temporary shutdown affects one of the airport’s two intersecting runways and is expected to alter operating patterns, capacity and noise distribution across parts of Hamburg.
The maintenance forms part of the airport’s regular infrastructure work. Runway use will be concentrated on the remaining strip while 15/33 is unavailable, with short daytime closures also possible at other times during the year.
The airport’s earlier maintenance programme has already covered the second runway, leaving the hub reliant on a single runway for the duration of the latest works. The arrangement is typical of planned upkeep at major city airports, where runway availability must be balanced against ongoing traffic and operational resilience.
