German investigators are examining whether drone debris found near the Bundeswehr air base in Wunstorf, Lower Saxony, may have carried explosives and whether it is connected to an earlier drone case at Leipzig/Halle airport. The wreckage was discovered about two kilometres from the military site, and the drone is believed to have been a custom-built object rather than a standard commercial model.
The find has drawn in the General Federal Prosecutor’s Office, while forensic work continues on the debris and any trace material nearby. Investigators believe the drone may have been lying in the area for some time before a farmer found it.
The Wunstorf case is being treated as part of a wider series of drone incidents affecting sensitive aviation and military locations in Germany. Reporting has linked the investigation to the earlier Leipzig/Halle incident, where a drone was found with an explosive charge, but the Wunstorf explosive angle remains unconfirmed and is being treated as a possible, not established, detail.
