Former Condor A320 moved into Düsseldorf hangar for airworthiness assessment

A 28-year-old Airbus A320 formerly operated by Condor has been moved from its long-term parking position at Düsseldorf Airport into a maintenance hangar. The aircraft, registered D-AICD, is owned by a UK-based company that commissioned Nayak to assess the work needed to restore it to airworthy condition. The inspection is an evaluation only; no decision has been confirmed on whether the aircraft will return to service.

The A320 had been parked at Düsseldorf since 2022. Condor withdrew it from its operating certificate in August that year as part of a planned fleet modernisation. The airport’s spokesperson confirmed the hangar move and said the owner had made payments towards the accumulated parking fees.

The assessment will determine the aircraft’s condition and the work and investment a restoration would require. The owner has not been identified, and there is no information on the assessment’s cost or whether restoration will proceed.

CH Aviation data cited in the report puts the aircraft’s history at about 25,000 flights and more than 70,000 flight hours. Its estimated value in perfect condition is approximately US$8.6 million.
