easyJet will roll out i6 Group’s eHandshake digital refuelling platform across its network, replacing paper-based workflows with a system that lets pilots order and confirm fuel digitally. The phased deployment begins on about half of the airline’s network and is due to extend to roughly 90% of destinations over the next three years.
eHandshake will be integrated into easyJet’s existing ETechlog pilot platform, creating a digital record of planned, requested, delivered and confirmed fuel quantities. The airline expects the change to improve fuel-order accuracy, cut unnecessary uplift and reduce handling queries by giving fuel suppliers advance notice before aircraft arrive at the stand.
easyJet estimates the system could save about 10,000 tonnes of CO2 a year and around 600,000 sheets of paper annually. The move also targets lower operating costs by reducing the amount of excess fuel carried on flights, which affects aircraft weight, burn and turnaround efficiency.
