DHL Express launches Bahrain–Johannesburg freighter service

DHL Express has launched a direct weekly cargo service between Bahrain and Johannesburg, with the first Boeing 767 freighter landing at OR Tambo International Airport. The new link connects the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa through Johannesburg, adding capacity for South Africa and neighbouring markets while giving customers greater flexibility for heavier shipments.

Bahrain serves as a node in DHL’s wider air network, linking the operation with major hubs including Hong Kong, Leipzig and Cincinnati. The route reflects increasing trade flows between Africa and the Gulf region and broadens the carrier’s cargo options on a corridor that has seen growing demand for airfreight capacity.

Johannesburg strengthens DHL’s southern African distribution reach by concentrating inbound cargo at a major hub with regional feed opportunities. The weekly freighter schedule provides a direct alternative for shipments moving between the Gulf and South Africa, reducing reliance on indirect routings and supporting time-sensitive and bulky consignments.
