COMAC has flown the C919-600, its shortened high-altitude variant, for the first time from Shanghai Pudong International Airport. The B-002U prototype logged 1 hour 59 minutes and completed all scheduled test items, moving the programme from ground trials into flight testing for plateau operations. The aircraft is tailored for thin-air airports with a reduced fuselage and systems changes aimed at takeoff, climb and landing performance, and is sized around 140 to 160 seats versus about 164 on the baseline C919. Xizang Airlines is the launch customer, with 40 aircraft tied to the programme, but COMAC has not disclosed certification or entry-into-service timing.
