A U.S. Coast Guard C-37A carrying Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin made an emergency landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday after losing its right engine. The aircraft, which had 14 people on board, landed safely with no injuries reported.
The pilot declared an emergency mid-flight and requested an immediate landing at DCA, where air traffic controllers guided the jet in safely. Mullin later praised the Coast Guard crew, calling the single-engine landing routine and saying there was no panic. The aircraft is the military version of a Gulfstream V and is used for senior Coast Guard and DHS transport.
The destination of the flight and the technical cause of the engine failure have not been disclosed. Coast Guard and FAA public comment on the incident remained limited in the reporting available.
