Cathay Cargo flies more than 50 horses to Hong Kong for Cavalluna debut

Cathay Cargo has flown more than 50 horses from Liège, Belgium, to Hong Kong on a chartered Boeing 747 freighter for Cavalluna’s first Asian engagement. The animals arrived on 3 September and were prepared for the show’s September debut at Kai Tak Arena, in a specialised live-animals operation that took about 12 hours.

The shipment supported the first Cavalluna performance outside Europe, with professional horse handlers accompanying the horses throughout the journey. The cast included eight breeds, underlining the complexity of the move and the care required for feeding, welfare and handling during transit.

The operation also highlighted Cathay Cargo’s equine transport capability. The carrier handles more than 1,000 horses a year, and the Hong Kong move formed part of a one-off logistics effort for the touring production rather than a routine freight flight.
