Construction work on Berlin’s S-Bahn network is disrupting rail access to Berlin Brandenburg Airport, with the S9 section between Treptower Park and Schöneweide suspended and replacement buses operating. Passengers using the airport link are being directed to regional alternatives, including the FEX service and other regional trains, as the interruption runs through the early hours of 31 August.
The service change stems from work on a new electronic signal box in Schöneweide, part of broader S-Bahn construction activity in Berlin’s south-east. The affected S9 corridor is one of the key rail routes to BER, so the suspension is likely to affect airport journeys during the busy summer travel period. The disruption adds pressure to ground transport planning for passengers travelling to and from the airport, particularly those relying on direct S-Bahn connections from central and south-eastern Berlin.
