Austrian Airlines to withdraw from Vienna–Cologne/Bonn route

Austrian Airlines will withdraw from the Vienna–Cologne/Bonn route, with its last currently scheduled flight planned for 11 January 2027. The Lufthansa Group carrier’s winter schedule includes up to two daily services between Vienna Airport and Cologne Bonn Airport. The nonstop connection will remain available within the group, with Eurowings set to become the sole operator from 14 January 2027.

Eurowings already serves the route and operates twice on weekdays, generally with morning and evening departures. The precise schedule after Austrian’s withdrawal has not been published, but the direct link between the two cities is expected to continue under the Eurowings brand.

The change shifts additional short-haul flying from Austrian to its group sister carrier while preserving connectivity between Vienna and Cologne/Bonn. It appears consistent with the Lufthansa Group’s broader strategy of reallocating short-haul connecting traffic among its airlines, although Austrian has not publicly stated a specific reason for ending the service.
