Austrian Airlines is preparing to withdraw another Boeing 767 from service as the carrier advances towards the end of its long-haul 767 chapter. OE-LAZ is due to leave the operational fleet on 28 September, leaving two Boeing 767-300ERs in service at the Vienna-based airline, while the final retirement date remains open.
Current planning points to a possible last 767 flight on 1 December, operating OS42 between Vienna and Washington, though no fixed date has been confirmed. Austrian still has three Boeing 767s in the fleet, all survivors of the six aircraft it inherited in 2005, and the type has remained a mainstay on intercontinental routes for more than two decades.
The next withdrawal would leave OE-LAE and OE-LAY as the only remaining 767s. One of them is expected to operate the final Washington service if the timetable holds, as Austrian continues to thin out the fleet ahead of a full transition to newer long-haul aircraft.
