Atlas Air Worldwide has completed its strategic investment in Air Atlanta, taking a 49% minority equity stake and forming a wider partnership centred on widebody capacity and ACMI operations. Atlas also acquired aircraft owned by the Air Atlanta group through Titan Aviation Holdings and will lease them back for continued use by Air Atlanta, which keeps operating under its existing leadership and structure.
The New York-based deal expands Atlas’s global operating platform and gives it greater access to widebody capacity in key international markets. Atlas chief executive Michael Steen welcomed Air Atlanta as a strategic partner as the two groups move forward under the long-term lease arrangement. The transaction closes a deal first unveiled in late May, when the companies outlined the investment as a way to strengthen their respective businesses over time.
The structure combines an equity investment with an asset transfer, reflecting the flexibility often used in the ACMI market to secure aircraft without disrupting airline operations. Barclays and Morgan Stanley acted as financial advisers to Atlas, while Norton Rose Fulbright provided legal counsel.
