American Airlines has reached 100 next-generation Airbus A321s after taking delivery of four aircraft in seven days in late October: three A321neos and one A321XLR. The latest arrival, XLR N311NY, assembled in Hamburg, landed at Dallas/Fort Worth on 30 October. American now operates 11 A321XLRs and expects three more A321neos and one additional XLR by the end of 2026.
The 100-aircraft milestone covers the next-generation A321s, not American’s entire A321 fleet. The A321neo adds capacity on high-density routes and replaces older A321s and retired Boeing 757s. The longer-range XLR is intended for transcontinental and transatlantic services, including routes that can be operated without a larger widebody.
American has assigned the XLR to new European routes planned for 2027, including Amsterdam, Nice, Porto and Vienna. The expected year-end deliveries remain forecasts; the four aircraft received in late October are the completed deliveries. Details including individual delivery dates and registrations for the other three aircraft in that group have not been reported.
