Alaska Airlines to fly Boeing 737 MAX 8 from Anchorage to Tokyo

Alaska Airlines will launch its first nonstop service between Anchorage and Tokyo Narita next spring, using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft for the seasonal transpacific route. Flights are scheduled to begin on 13 May 2027, operating daily through 7 September before resuming three times weekly from January 2028. The service remains subject to government approval, although tickets are already on sale.

The westbound flight will depart Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport at 14:10 and arrive at Narita at 15:25 the following day. The return service is scheduled to leave Tokyo at 21:45 and reach Anchorage at 12:00 the same day. The 3,433-mile route will have a westbound flying time of approximately eight hours and 15 minutes.

Alaska’s MAX 8 is the only 737 variant in its fleet with sufficient range for the operation. The aircraft will retain the airline’s domestic cabin, with 16 First Class recliner seats, 36 extra-legroom seats and 115 standard economy seats. The route will therefore use a single-aisle aircraft on a transpacific service and become one of Alaska’s longest 737 operations.

Introductory round-trip fares start at $999 for travel from 13 May to 7 June 2027, subject to availability.
