Airbus will convert its former A380 wing production facility at Broughton in Wales into a dedicated A321 wing line, with the work due to finish by the end of 2026. The £150 million project is part of the manufacturer’s push to lift A320 Family output toward 75 aircraft a month, while the refurbished site is set to support the narrowbody backlog with six wing production jigs, an equipping line and a paint shop.
The first wing is already under way, and all six jigs should be operational by the end of the year. Airbus is also planning about 480 new jobs at Broughton in 2026, including roughly 250 linked to the refurbished factory, on top of a site workforce of about 6,000.
The conversion repurposes the West Factory, opened in 2003 for A380 wing work, after that programme ended in 2020. Broughton remains Airbus’s main UK wing site and continues to play a central role in the company’s wider industrial ramp-up for the A320 Family, with the A321 making up the bulk of the backlog.
