Airbus reaches preliminary labour deal with four Spanish unions after weeks of strikes

Airbus has reached a preliminary agreement with four Spanish unions after weeks of strikes at its plants across Spain, easing an industrial dispute that involved more than 14,000 employees. The deal was brokered with help from Spain’s Industry Ministry and still needs approval in a binding vote by Airbus workers before it can take effect.

The unions involved are UGT, ATP, CCOO and SIPA, which together represent more than 80% of the workforce affected by the dispute. Industry Minister Jordi Hereu disclosed the breakthrough after an emergency meeting, while Airbus described the outcome as a proposal of understanding that enables the package to go to the workforce for ratification.

The terms reported include measures to recover lost purchasing power, inflation-linked wage increases and improvements to mobility, canteen services, flexibility, telework, holiday rules and absenteeism controls. The strikes had disrupted operations at Airbus sites in Spain for weeks, adding pressure on both management and employees to settle the dispute quickly.
