Africa World Airlines receives first Embraer E190 in fleet expansion push

Africa World Airlines has taken delivery of its first Embraer E190 in Accra, introducing a larger aircraft type to the Ghanaian carrier’s fleet and expanding capacity on domestic and West African routes. The 102-seat jet, registered 9G-FDA, arrived at Kotoka International Airport on 19 September and was unveiled in the presence of Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe.

The aircraft is configured with 14 premium economy seats and 88 economy seats, giving AWA a substantial step up from its long-serving ERJ-145 fleet. The airline is positioning the E190 as the start of a wider fleet-expansion plan to support higher-demand services and improve connectivity across the region.

The delivery is the first of two E190s reported for AWA, with a second aircraft expected in December. The new jet also comes amid a recent relaunch of the Accra–Abidjan route and wider plans to add more aircraft over the next year. One report identified the airframe as 15 years old and ferried from China via several stops before reaching Ghana.
