General Atomics AeroTec Systems and Hensoldt South Africa have presented the ARGOS-15 electro-optical and infrared surveillance system for the Dornier Do228 NXT. Intended for reconnaissance and surveillance missions, the system is positioned as the successor to ARGOS-II and is proposed for the special-mission aircraft’s long-endurance operations of up to eight hours.
ARGOS-15 is installed ahead of the Do228 NXT’s retractable main landing gear, a location designed to provide an unobstructed 360-degree field of view. Its sensor package combines multispectral cameras with artificial-intelligence-assisted functions for automatic object detection, classification and tracking.
Depending on the configuration, the system can include long-range multispectral cameras, a laser rangefinder, a laser designator and a laser target marker for military missions. The integrated functions are intended to improve image quality in changing operating conditions while reducing the workload for mission operators.
The presentation represents a system offering and integration proposal rather than confirmation of a procurement or completed installation on a customer aircraft. No customer, contract value, delivery schedule or operational end-user has been identified.
